Greetings from the Sub-Arctic!
Life up here is nice right now – temps in the 50s at night reaching into the low 70s during the daytime. And yes, it’s getting dark again: not enough to see the stars, but not enough to see a moose, either. I get up early, but don’t take Stanley outside until it’s light enough to make sure we’re not walking up on a moose or worse (porcupine, fox, coyote, wolf, grizzly), although moose are by far the most common.
We’ve had a young moose cow running around lately. She surprised us on the trail, but she’s by herself, so not a threat. She turned and ran when she saw me. Stanley didn’t see her but he has this love/hate relationship with the horse next door. I digress. Moose cows with calves or bear sows with cubs will put a hurt on you.
Stanley likes the freedom of our yard and the woods. Our yard is two acres and looks like a jungle, but we cut a walking path around it. And the woods are old growth – birch and spruce trees aplenty.
You’ll find a couple big giveaways toward the end. Look for my Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus with a $100 Amazon gift card to build my newsletter (since you’re already subscribed, it’ll look like you’re resubscribing, but my email server only sends one email per address so you might as well enter for a chance to win). I’m advertising this giveaway far and wide, but you guys deserve a chance to win, too. What about the cable and phone discounts for new customers only? Those piss me off, too.

EDITED (correct links this week) The Love-Haight Case Files – Book 1 is coming to you from Craig Martelle, Inc on August 23rd. Book 2 will publish on Sep 20. Both will be in Kindle Unlimited where you can read them at no additional cost.
Authors Jean Rabe & Donald J. Bingle hit a home run with this sometimes humorous, sometimes mysterious, always gripping courtroom drama. These stories are must reads for fans of Law & Order. Take a look. You’ll be happily surprised.
Supernatural beings are willing to fight for their legal rights!
Since the Summer of Love, the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco has been known for attracting weird and unconventional souls, but things got even stranger when the monsters moved in.
Magic has returned to the world and with it a host of supernatural creatures—not just vampires and ghosts, but sentient gargoyles, ghouls, sprites, faeries, and more. The frightened citizenry, holier-than-thou bigots, headline-seeking reporters, and harried police refer to them as OTs (Other-Than-Humans), but Thomas Brock and Evelyn Love believe even supernatural creatures have legal rights.
Delve into their case files for a genre-bending mix of mystery, horror, suspense, thrills, courtroom drama, and romance. The city’s OT element is sometimes malevolent, sometimes misunderstood, and often discriminated against. Brock and Love represent them all, dead, undead, or alive—whatever the case, whatever the species.

What else am I working on? So much stuff…
Battleship: Leviathan Book 3 – ¾ done. Oorah! This series will be a quarter of a million words when all is said and done. My beta readers tell me that you’re going to love this series. And the first book is available for pre-order for only 99 cents! ONLY 99 CENTS!
The Expanding Universe 7 – I should get this pre-order posted because DAMN! It’s shaping up to be one fine collection with a critical mass of all-star authors. My story – A Deadly Game is a nice piece of work (I hope you think so, too).
Zenophobia – the trilogy. I need to do one last pass on the edits and then get this one loaded up and ready to go for a late October release. Anthropomorphic space opera – think Island of Dr. Moreau in space without the horror, just the search for truth.
Glory – an epic military science fiction tale, Book 1. We’ll get that published this year. Books 2 and 3 will probably push to next year, but did I tell you that it’s epic? One old ship, barely out of mothballs, little better than scrap, challenged with nothing less than defeating a superior alien enemy. But it carries a secret the aliens don’t know and may not be ready for. Only one shot to save humanity.
Not Enough Book #1, Echo Breaker, a coming of age fantasy. This balances well for readers of all ages, but especially for those who are growing up and wondering what their place is. A little something for every reader. Book 1 is almost in the can. We should have covers for this series within a couple weeks.
I have a short story in a Baen anthology coming this fall – a little Sci-Fi Noir.
And Ian Bragg #4, A Fatal Bragg is coming in November, possibly on the anniversary of the publication of Book 1. I’ll write this book in August and the first part of September.
